Don't Pass Up This Teaching Moment*Bottom line -- there is no legal way for low-skilled workers to obtain "work visas" and later become legal residents. Only the educated and skilled can obtain those benefits.
*There is a six-to-22-year wait to reunify families separated by the immigration laws. These are the reasons why people come illegally -- there is no other way.
*Many people continue to say things like "I came the right way," "my parents did it the right way," "my grandparents waited for their visas." Those ways no longer exist. It doesn't matter where they are from -- if an intending immigrant is low-skilled, there is no legal mechanism for him or her to come to the U.S. to work, to live, to participate in the "American Dream." Give up that argument.
